MQA

Mining and Minerals Sector Centres of Specialisation (CoS) Launch Event

The MQA commenced with participation in the CoS programme as a pilot in 2019.  This was in response to the CoS being an initiative of the DHET which is designed to address the demand for priority trades needed for the implementation of governments National Development Plan.

The programme is also aimed at contributing towards the building of the capacity of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges to deliver quality trade qualifications in collaboration with employer partners within the sector.

Out of the thirteen priority trades which were identified as being in strong demand for infrastructure programmes, the MQA has implemented seven of the priority trades, which include millwright, welder, fitter and turner, diesel mechanic, rigger, electrician and boilermaker.

The development of these priority trades is through the Quality Council for Trades and Occupation (QCTO) trade qualifications.  The CoS has been evolved to a fully-fledged programme from the pilot project that was initiated in 2019. It is for this reason that the MQA intends to launch the programme within the mining and minerals sector.

Due to a limited number of invited guests, stakeholders are invited to attend the virtual session of the event.
