Reopening: Mining Qualifications Authority Accounting Authority Call for Nominations

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) operating under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The MQA is mandated to drive skills development within the mining and minerals sector (MMS) in alignment with the National Skills Development Plan 2030. The MQA’s scope covers a diverse range of sub-sectors, including Coal Mining, Gold Mining, Platinum Group Metals (PGM) Mining, Diamond Mining, other mining commodities, Cement, Lime, Aggregates, and Sand, as well as services related to the mining industry, Diamond Processing, and Jewellery Manufacturing.

On behalf of the Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the MQA invites nominations for the appointment of suitably qualified individuals, including youth preferably in possession of NQF Level 7 with expertise and experience in skills development and/or community development and/or governance to serve as members of the MQA Accounting Authority (AA) until 31 March 2030.

Nominations are invited from Organised Labour, Organised Employers, Community Organisations, Professional Bodies, Bargaining Councils, and Government Departments, in accordance with Section 11(2)(b) of the Skills Development Act (SDA), and specifically for the Mining and Minerals Sector (MMS).. In line with policy and legislative priorities, preference will be given to candidates who are persons with disabilities, youth, and women.

Nominated persons should possess requisite experience, knowledge, skills and competencies in the following disciplines:

Application of corporate governance and ethics Skills development legislation and the NSDP 2030

The SETA’s responsibility in respect to service delivery The PFMA and Financial management

The Sector and/or Constituency represented by the Member The strategic leadership role of the Accounting Authority

Education, training, skills development and human resources development, and quality assurance of learning provision

In considering the applications contemplated, the prescripts of section 11 (4)(c) of the Skills Development Act which stipulates, inter alia, that the membership of the Accounting Authority should be drawn from the ranks of senior officials in the organisations they come from will be applied (preferably competent candidates with an intensive wealth of sectoral knowledge, technical experience and leadership capability).

The following background checks and verifications will be conducted on all nominees. Documentary proof and a completed compliance checklist must accompany each nomination:

Nominations must contain a full motivation, the full names and addresses of the interested parties making the nominations, a signed nomination form and acceptance of the nomination by the nominee, an ID copy and Curriculum Vitae of the nominee providing, among others, the candidate’s:

  • Full name and gender
  • Contact address, telephone numbers and email address
  • Previous experience and relevant expertise, quoting dates and organisations concerned
  • Academic qualifications (recently certified)
  • Other Board or governance committee membership

Candidates will be subjected to security verifications and disclosure of business interests. Nominations received after the closing date and time will not be considered and correspondence will be limited to short-listed candidates only.

All those who were already nominated during the previous advertisements are not required to be renominated as their previous applications will be considered.
