The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority that facilitates skills development under the Department of Higher Education and Training. The organisation supports mine health and safety under the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources for the mining and minerals sector under Skills Development Act 97 of 1998, and the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996, respectively.

The MQA hereby informs all its stakeholders of the changes pertaining to the current, triangular MQA logo. The current logo was established based on a tripartite structure representing the State, Employers, and Organised Labour. Presently the MQA Board has adopted a new mandate which represents the broader interests of various MQA stakeholders, including communities.

Additionally, the logo has not kept pace with technological developments; the tagline, “Digging with Skills & Knowledge,” was focused on the manual aspect of mining related activities, however, with technological advances the logo and tagline necessitate a focus on technological innovations that characterise the mining and minerals sector, to achieve impactful future mining skills.

Since the mining sector knows the organisation as MQA first and the Mining Qualifications Authority second, the new official Wordmark only includes the acronym. The Wordmark has been altered to include circular elements that represent the inclusive offerings of MQA to the mining and minerals sector.

The MQA will be phasing out the current triangular logo and stakeholders are advised to be on the lookout for announcements to elaborate on this process.
