Call for Applications for MQA Discretionary Grants on the CANDIDACY PROGRAMME for (2022 – 2023)

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998.

The MQA would invite companies to participate on the MQA Candidacy Programme for the period of 01 April 2022 to 31 March 2023. The programme is aimed at supporting individuals that would like to attain Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) through their companies. The individuals can be either employed or unemployed. Employed individuals are those that are currently employed in companies, and they would like to start training on GCC, or they have already commenced with GCC training.

Regarding unemployed individuals, these are individuals that the companies would recruit and register them to with MQA to be trained to attain GCC.

The following are the GCC that the MQA is supporting:

  • Electrical Engineering GCC;
  • Mechanical Engineering GCC;
  • Mine Survey GCC;
  • Mine Managers Certificate of Competence MMC;

Application forms and grants rules:

Application forms including the grant rules and criteria are available on the MQA website at www.mqa.org.za; specific project information can be accessed via the hyperlinks on the forms. Completed application forms must be submitted via e-mail ONLY to grants@mqa.org.za. Hand delivered application forms including those sent to other email addresses will not be accepted.

Please note:

  • Terms and conditions will apply in accordance with the MQA Funding Policy.
  • Application forms will only be available on the MQA website.
  • MQA may call for application for projects, but it is at MQA discretion to allocate the grants on these
  • The application form must be completed in full and duly signed. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application form submitted is correct and completed in full.
