The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998.
The second application window for Discretionary Grants allocations, for the period 01 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, will open on 24 February 2025. Employers and other stakeholders in the sector are invited to submit their applications for the following projects:
- Short Courses Learning Programmes
- Inhouse Training
- Workplace Coaches Programmes
- Placement of workplace coaches for coaching learners of Artisan Development Programmes
- Training of workplace coaches by the MQA appointed Service Provider
- Learning Material Development
- Standard Setting
- Artisan Development Centres of Specialisation (CoS)
- TVET Work integrated learning
- CET Internships
- TVET Internships
- TVET Colleges Lecturers Bursaries
- CETLlearners Accessing AET Programmes
- TVET Lecturers exposure project
- CET Managers Training

- CET Lecturers accessing skills programmes

Completed application forms must be submitted via e-mail ONLY to grants@mqa.org.za.
Hand-delivered application forms including those sent to other email addresses will not be considered.
Please note:
- Terms and conditions will apply in accordance with the MQA Funding Policy and Allocation Criteria.
- For the Mine Community and Unemployed Youth Development Programmes a proposal guide template and an annexure detailing districts where the projects should be implemented and learning interventions is available on the MQA website.
- *A compulsory virtual briefing session will be held on 05 March 2025 at 10am for Mine Community and Unemployed Youth Development Programmes. The meeting link will be available on the MQA website.
- Application forms will only be available on the MQA website.
- The MQA may call for application for projects, but it is at MQA discretion to allocate the grants on these
- The application form must be completed in full.
