The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and its partners, Harmony Gold Mining Company and CET college, will be hosting the International Literacy Day (ILD) celebrations in Harmony Gold Mine, Gauteng on 20th September 2025.
International Literacy Day is an annual event that is celebrated globally during the month of September.
On this day, the importance of literacy amongst communities, societies and individuals is highlighted. In South Africa, a programme such as Adult Education and Training (AET) is well recognised for the contribution it continues to make in improving adult literacy levels.
Furthermore, the ILD event aimed at encouraging new entrants, learners who are currently on AET programmes, and those who have successfully completed their AET training to continue on the literacy improvement journey.
The MQA recognises the significance of this day and has been celebrating the event in partnership with mining houses and the organised labour in previous years.
Therefore, MQA and its host partners will be celebrating the 2025 ILD event on the 20th of September 2025; this will be preceded by a three-hour webinar on the 17th of September 2025.
The objective of the webinar is to engage practitioners and experts on AET and related topics under this year’s event theme, “Promoting literacy in the digital era.”
