The MQA should ensure that there is a system to maintain the quality of registered unit standards, qualifications and learning provision including learnerships. Quality Assurance is a process aimed at inter alia:

  • Accrediting training providers,
  • Registering assessors and moderators,
  • Auditing the quality of learning provision and assessment, and
  • Certificating learners

Training Providers in the Mining and Minerals Sector are required to implement the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System together with other requirements stated by SAQA to become accredited with the MQA.

Details of these requirements can be found in the Accreditation of Providers section. Assessors/ Moderators who conduct assessment / moderation of any registered unit standards within Mining and Minerals Sector are required to be registered with the MQA as assessors/ moderators. Requirements for assessor registration can be found in the assessor registration section.

When learners have successfully been assessed and found competent against unit standards/ qualifications, the MQA is responsible for issuing certificates to those learners. This certificate will only be issued for qualifications registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and registered skills programme.
