Ladies and gentlemen,

“When eating fruit, remember the one who planted the tree” is a Vietnamese proverb that best describes my gratitude for having been given this pleasant opportunity to offer my closing remarks at the conclusion of our annual general meeting.

Programme Directors, Ms Kedibone Moroane and Mr Brian Ncube, on behalf of the MQA Board and Staff, I would like to thank you for your time and for your stellar stewardship of today’s programme, by ensuring that this morning’s feedback session was kept under control and on time as we were discussing the MQA’s performance for the previous financial year.

I also extend my gratitude to our Board Chairperson, Mr David Msiza, for the warm reception in opening today’s proceedings and for making us feel welcomed on this important occasion.

I would also like to thank the Chief Executive Officer of the Mining Qualifications Authority, Dr Thabo Mashongoane, and the MQA’s Chief Financial Officer Ms Lebogang Matlala, for outlining in such a proficient manner, the elements that contributed to the MQA’s commendable achievement of a clean audit report for the 2022-2023 financial year.

As the MQA continues to lead for growth, service and partnerships in facilitating impactful learning delivery through various MQA programmes and interventions, it is this sustained passion for excellence that fosters support from our stakeholders to empower and skill all individuals who participate and contribute to a renewed mining and minerals sector.

Our utmost appreciation goes out to our stakeholders, both in person and in virtually, who have graciously accepted our invitation to participate in the proceedings of this day.

We value your inputs, ideas, and questions as you continue to engage us while providing us with invaluable feedback on our performance and partnering with us to navigate and surmount challenges to advance our goal of shaping an innovated mining and minerals sector with sufficient competent people that continue to improve health and safety, employment equity, and increase productivity standards.

Finally, I would like to show my appreciation to the organising staff from the MQA for their tireless efforts in working to ensure the event is successfully hosted.

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your time and please join us as we proceed to our Mining Skills Lekgotla event.
